Mulches, Soils and Compost

Mulch

Red mulch

Dyed (red,black, brown)

Made from 100% "virgin forest" material. It is a shredded and screened mulch (predominantly hardwood) that is dyed with a non-toxic colorant providing a rich contrast to the plants in your landscape.

Mulch

Natural non-dyed

Ranging light tan to a medium brown and can be used on slopes up to 30 degrees.

Mulch

Natural red oak

The by-product of a lumber mill that produces red oak flooring. When fresh, the color is a light almost orange-brown color that will darken over several months. It has the ability to "mat-down" making it more resistant to washing away, and therefore can be used on slopes up to 45 degrees. It will also tolerate more leaf removal.

Mulch

Cypress

From the white wood of the cypress tree and is bark free. Because cypress wood is porous, soft, long lasting and dries out quickly, it is considered by many as the premier play area material.

Mulch

Kid safe

An engineered wood product made of hardwood and engineered wood fiber. It has the necessary IPEMA certification needed for daycares, city municipalities, churches, and homeowner playgrounds.

Pine nuggets

Pine nuggets

Available in regular or mini. Made from Southern yellow longleaf pine and are excellent for slowing weed growth. Nuggets help retain moisture and add nutrients to the soil for optimal plant health.

Soils & Composts (ordered by price)

Fill dirt

Fill dirt

Mix of soil and rock. Has some debris.

Screened top soil

Screened top soil

Obtained from various local tracts of land that were formerly pastures and "bottom" land. The soil is then processed to remove the vast majority of sticks and rocks producing a very rakeable quality material. Some organics are added when necessary.

Sod mix

Sod mix

Ideal when planting new sod.

Blackened top soil

Blackened top soil

This is a mixture of screened topsoil and ash . This soil is loose and is good for planting trees and shrubs as well putting underneath new sod. As the name suggests this soil is very dark in color.

Soil conditioner

Soil conditioner

Great for shrubs and trees. It is a mixture of Bark Fines and Organic Compost. Use this product for shrubs and trees and water thoroughly after planting to allow easy root expansion.

Plant mix

Plant mix

Consists of screened topsoil and various composts including our Mushroom Compost. The mixture is an organic plant food and fertilizer that is ideal for creating raised flowerbeds or planting vegetables. Just pile it up, plant directly into it, and watch your plants take off!

Compost mix

Compost mix

Compost Mix is a 100% compost product (THERE IS NO SOIL IN THIS MIX). It is a mixture of humus and mushroom compost and is a slightly alkaline plant food and fertilizer that is ideal for tilling into the soil for flowerbeds or vegetable garden plots. It does not contain topsoil and should be liberally tilled into the soil (ideally 50/50). Many garden growers also use it as top dressing mulch.

Hummus

Hummus

Mushroom compost with a neutral pH. It has outstanding water absorption quality, permitting absorption of 80% of its weight (by contrast clay allows only about 15%). Humus is a premium soil amendment used in preparing holes for planting vegetable gardens, ornamental shrubbery and flowerbeds or as a topdressing when seeding or sodding your lawn.
